In the Philippines, people use coin banks made out of bamboo. It is quite popular among Filipinos because of its cheap price. In addition, savings are much harder to take out since there are no other openings to use. The only way one can get the money from inside is breaking the entire coin case all together.
One netizen however shares that it’s not that safe to use the bamboo coin back after what happened to his savings. It turned out that these type coin cases can be eaten by termites. The pesky insects chewed its way through the wood. As a result, the paper bills inside got eaten as well . The damaged currency ranges from a few 50 pesos to some whooping 1000 bills as seen on the picture.
Luckily, there are some bills still left intact. The money can be cleaned and be later exchanged to the nearest Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP).
